The Amsterdammers sporting director reveals that his side wants to keep the Dutch midfielder at Amsterdam Arena while insisting that the English Premier League side have yet to approach the club.
Ajax Amsterdam sporting director, Marc Overmars, has mooted all the speculation indicating that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vurnon-Anita-c36486 is on the verge of joining Newcastle United, and has revealed that the Amsterdammers have not heard anything from the
Magpies about the midfielder.
The 23-year-old, who came through the ranks of De Joden’s youth academy, has been putting in impressive performances week in week out for the past couple of season.
The Dutchman’s brilliant showings at the centre of the park played an instrumental role in the Amsterdammers back-to-back Eredivisie triumphs.
Newcastle are in the market to bring reinforcements to their squad, especially to their midfield, before the ongoing summer transfer window slams shut, and have reportedly set their sights on Anita.
Reports confirm that the English Premier League outfit had tabled a bid of five million Euros to acquire the services of the versatile midfielder. However, the Ajax management turned down their offer, as they expressed reluctance
to sell their prized asset this summer.
However, Anita was not pleased with his side’s decision, and expressed his desire to move abroad for greener pastures this summer with the Magpies as his preferred destination.
Overmars, who was recently appointing as the Amsterdammers sporting director, has now urged the midfielder to continue donning the jersey of De Joden.
“If Frank [de Boer] wants to keep him, Vurnon should just stay at Ajax”, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 star was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The Dutch international, who has thus far made over 100 appearances for the 31-time Eredivisie champions, has a contract at Amsterdam Arena that runs until the end of the 2013/14 season, and the Amsterdammers chief has insisted
that his side is keen to keep him for at least another season.
“His contract has two more years left on it and we are very pleased with him. I have been in this role with Ajax for the past couple of weeks, and I have heard nothing from Newcastle”, Overmars concluded.
