Marc Savard cleared to participate in full contact practices
After being cleared to practice in non-contact drills last week, Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard has now been cleared to participate in full-contact drills at practice.
A statement released by Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli read: "Today (Tuesday 23 November) Marc passed the tests administered by Dr. Micky Collins from the Sports Medicine department at UPMC, and
is now cleared for contact. Marc will rejoin the team tomorrow for morning skate in Florida. There is no time-table at this time for Marc to start playing games."
Savard was injured late last season in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on 7 March. Savard suffered a concussion after a vicious blind-side hit by Matt Cooke. Although Savard returned during the
Bruins play-off run he continued to suffer from concussion symptoms during the off-season and has been on injured reserve since the season began.
Now that he's ready to practice, it doesn't mean that he's ready to play as he admitted that the speed of the game is something he will have to get used to before he takes to the ice for a competitive
game.
"They guys are fast, so I have to get used to that," Savard said in an interview with the
Boston Globe after skating with the team for the team ahead of their 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday 22 November. "My hands feel fine. My head feels great. I'm just waiting to go. I really want to get going."
Savard has had difficulty staying away from injuries since breaking his foot only seven games into last season. After returning from the broken foot, Savard played only one shift before injuring his knee.
Despite the various injuries Savard played in 41 games last season collecting 10 goals and 23 assists before the hit by Cooke sidelined him.
The Bruins are off to a good start to the season and currently sit in the top eight in the Eastern Conference.
