Marc VDS Racing rider Mika Kallio amazed by Suter MotoGP bike progress tested at Brno – MotoGP news
Marc VDS Racing Team test rider Mika Kallio is impressed after the improvements made by Marc VDS engineers since the last test held at Mugello.
The Brno post race test was visibly a progress.
Kallio said, “Here, things went much better than before. We tested three times in Mugello and we had a few problems there – the lap time was not at the level we wanted it to be, and we were too slow. However, when we arrived here everything was immediately
better; it looks like the bike fits this track better.”
After first appearance at Mugello, the Marc VDS team engineers made significant progress. Though Kallio was last in the time sheet with a gap of over three seconds from Casey Stoner, but in Mugello test the gap from the leader was over six seconds, while
Stoner was aboard the 800cc bike.
The time difference has reduced to half with the help of improvements and the track was also complementing the bike.
Kallio added, “I’m getting used to this level of power again and the lap time has been improving. Step by step we have made quite a lot of changes for the electronics and the clutch system, and for the engine braking too, and it looks like we made quite
a big step today.”
After testing the improvements in the BMW powered Suter bike, Kallio and Marc VDS team were happy with the progress. The lap time has been improved as compared to the Mugello test and the gap from the leader has decreased significantly.
Kallio is positive and feels that there is still a margin to improve further. He added that there are still some areas which have been addressed at Brno but they can be advanced to the next level.
A problem faced by Kallio was that he lacked the feel from the rear end during the corners. The bike slides in the corner entry and due to less feel from the rear tyre, it becomes difficult to turn the bike.
The major time loss is expected at the corner entry which can be solved. The other major aspect is to tune electronics and make some changes which could overall improve lap timings.
