Marc Zwiebler beats Dieter Domke to bag Men’s Singles title at Deutsche Meisterschaften 2012
Germany’s top seed, Marc Zwiebler, proved his superiority in the country as he bagged Men’s Singles title after beating his team-mate Dieter Domke in the final encounter of Deutsche Meisterschaften 2012, in Germany, on Sunday, February 5.
Zwiebler, who has been playing remarkable badminton for the last one year and has achieved a respectable world ranking by reaching at number 14, had to dig into his arsenal to produce some fabulous strokes to chuck out Domke, who is currently number 79 in
the world.
In this tournament, Zwiebler was the top seed in Men’s Singles draw and he lived up to the expectations by winning the final contest against the second seeded Domke.
In the first game, Zwiebler showed his incredible skills as dominated the rallies from the opening points and did not let his rival to level the score at any stage. Until the break, Zwiebler built a wonderful lead against Domke, who played negative badminton.
After the break, Zwiebler continued his remarkable play without slowing down his speed and maintained pressure on his rival in the whole set. He finished the game in a sensational fashion with a 21-12 score on the board.
The second set of this final contest was absolutely thrilling as both men played positive and attacking badminton and remained close. They played controlled badminton and no one could take advantage until the end of opening half of second game.
After the interval, the score again remained tight as both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe until the ending phase. At this crucial stage, Zwiebler could not produce finishing strokes and lost the game with a tight score of 21-23.
In the deciding game, Domke remained close to his top seeded opponent in the first few rallies but he could not maintain his speed and started to play quivering badminton.
On the other hand, Zwiebler was positive and focused in the game and he manipulated all loop poles of his lower ranked challenger. He played a planned game and won the deciding set with a comfortable score of 21-15.
Zwiebler ended this rubber-set fight in 69 minutes with a margin of 21-12, 21-23 and 21-15.
