Marc Zwiebler beats Rasheed Mohamed Ajfan in Men’s Singles Group K match at London Olympics
Germany’s top player Marc Zwiebler showed a strong character in his first match as he easily toppled Rasheed Mohamed Ajfan of Maldives in Men’s Singles Group K fight at the 2012 London Olympics in London, on Saturday, July 28.
The aggressive Zwiebler, who is currently World Number 18 in Men’s Singles category, found a confident start as he played with impressive control and easily thrashed his lower ranked opponent in a lopsided manner.
The in-form German shuttler was on a different level on court as he tested all of his shots to get familiar with the court condition and remained successful in beating Rasheed in straight sets with a one-sided score on the board.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Rasheed failed to put up even a meagre resistance against his German opponent. He could not play competitive badminton and remained struggling in all areas of the court and eventually lost the match without putting up good show.
The opening set was completely dominated by Zwiebler who was everywhere on court as he played aggressive badminton coupled with impressive drives to move his opponent in all corners and remained successful in taking a stunning lead until the break.
The confused Rasheed could not create any trouble on court and remained trailing in all aspects of the game.
After the one-minute interval, Zwiebler continued his ruthless run on court as he showed no mercy to his un-seeded opponent at any stage of opening set and easily wrapped it up with a superb 21-9 margin on score board.
The following game was not different from the opening set as Zwiebler again registered his supremacy on score board without facing any problem and managed a huge lead on score board until the end of first half.
After the break, the in-form German shuttler continued his positive and killing run on court and he did not take much time in finishing off the second set with a smashing 21-6 score on the board.
The higher ranked Zwiebler easily won his first match in Group K by beating Rasheed in a lopsided fashion with a striking margin of 21-9 and 21-6.
