Marc Zwiebler ousts Ville Lang in quarter-final round - Bitburger Badminton Open Update
Men’s Singles campaigner Marc Zwiebler of Germany lived up to his billing and escorted his country to the semi-finals of Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold on November 2, 2012.
He relished full benefits of home ground and crowd to overpower Ville Lang with a favourable score position of 21-9 and 21-13.
This crucial tussle was staged at local badminton arena of Saarbrucken and the native shuttler saved his honour with a splendid straight-set victory.
World Number 20 Marc Zwiebler, who is also the second seeded shuttler of this tournament, set foundation of his supremacy in the beginning of first set as he confounded the opposing shuttler with a series of masterly crafted strokes.
The German campaigner ruled the court in couple of consecutive rallies and put his rival under huge pressure.
Though, the Finnish player made every effort to tip the scale in his favour but his fluctuated performance proved the biggest hurdle in his way to glory.
Mark Zwiebler capitalised on his challenger’s mistakes and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
After the one-minute break, he looked in prime touch as he did not give Ville Lang even a single chance to come back and wrapped this segment of the showdown with a notable lead of 12 points. He bagged ten out of last eleven points and placed a winning margin
of 21-9.
The second set of the match kept the audience intact until half time as it proved a dead contest after the mid-game break.
Initially, Ville Lang showed some spark and created few challenges for his rival but he could not play his given role in next couple of rallies and let this valuable match point slip from his hands.
Meanwhile, Mark Zwiebler was completely on song as he outclassed the Finnish shuttler technically and tactically.
He made his intentions straight by putting an indomitable score of 11 and then pushed Ville Lang on the back-foot with 16-9 margin.
This significant lead helped him to sweep the table with 21-13 total and ensured his presence in semi-final round where Mark Zwiebler will meet Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif of Malaysia.
