Marc Zwiebler thrashes Henri Hurskainen in round-of-16 at the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix
Germany’s Marc Zwiebler thrashed Sweden’s Henri Hurskainen in their Men’s Singles round-of-16 encounter at the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix, in Richmond DC, Canada, on Thursday, July 21. The second seed German took 43 minutes to crush Hurskainen in a straight-set
battle.
World Number 16 in the international rankings, Zwiebler, proved too strong for the Swedish shuttler as he played top-class badminton. He spared no chance for his opponent to make a comeback in the match. The German has been playing tremendous badminton for
the last few months and he continued his impressive game in the Canada Open.
The first set of the match was thrilling, as both shuttlers played to their maximum potential by keeping the pace of the game at the highest level. The score remained tight in the first-half, where the German shuttler was slightly ahead of the Swedish at
11-10.
After the break, Hurskainen played positive badminton by controlling the rallies and made the German work hard at the net. However, the score was tied until the match entered into the concluding phase of the opening set, where Zwiebler managed to win the
game by a margin of 22-20, in 30 minutes.
However, the German surprised everyone by playing incredible badminton in the second set of the match, where her showed no mercy to the Swedish shuttler and crushed him by wasting no time. Hurskainen failed to continue his aggressive game in this set and
was struggling to return to the strokes of his challenger. His movement to the base-line was also slow when compared to his rival, who was playing by moving sharply in the court.
Zwiebler put up a superb show of top-class badminton against Hurskainen in the second game and finished it in tremendous fashion, with a stunning difference of 21-6 in just 13 minutes. The final score of this superb 43-minute straight-set match was 22-20
and 21-6.
In the Men’s Singles quarter-final, the German will take on Yan Kit Chan of Hong Kong, who hammered Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon in his previous match.
