The former Chelsea and A.C Milan defender has come out and made a strong case to appoint Roberto Di Matteo as Chelsea’s permanent manager in his recent interview saying that he would love to see Di Matteo lead Chelsea...
Desailly has come out and backed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 as he has brought about a significant change at the club only in a short time that he has been there. Chelsea won the
first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against Benfica as they gained a 1-0 win in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 but they still have to play the Portuguese giants in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Nonetheless, the tie seems secure for the Blues now who have done well at home in European football this season. Under their previous manager Andre Villas Boas, Chelsea had struggled to gain acceptable results in the Premier League
as well as the UEFA Champions League but since his dismissal, the Blues have picked up form and now look like credible contenders for the fourth place spot in the Premier League table.
Desailly who spent a large part of his career at the London club still has affiliations with the Chelsea faithful and his backing for Di Matteo might mean a permanent contract for the Italian tactician in the summer when Roman
Abramovich considers the options that he has got.
Desailly said, "Mr Abramovich will do whatever he wants but I would really love to see Di Matteo keep the post. We are already hearing other coaches to come. Big names. Small names. Young. Old. But maybe the secret is to keep Di
Matteo. Direct him on the mission and the vision the club have and see what is going to happen.”
He added, "I really think that they should give him a chance and I hope he [Abramovich] will keep Di Matteo. As the manager, yes. You just have to cover yourself a bit in the future in case you want to get rid of him. You need
to fit somebody else into the club on standby in case in a year or two years’ time you decide to sack Di Matteo."
