Marcel Granollers blows away Stephane Bohli to reach the second round – Suisse Open Gstaad 2011
World number 45, Marcel Granollers of Spain absolutely had no real trouble in dispensing out the local wildcard entrant, Stephane Bohli, in the opening round of Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad on Tuesday afternoon.
Being part of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 clay-court swing, the competition was held at the Credit Agricole Arena in Gstaad, Switzerland. Seeded at number eight in the tournament, Granollers exhibited
his brilliant form to outclass the bleak Swiss opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-0, to make it into the second round of the tournament.
The contest ended to the dismay of the local crowd, as Bohli lasted for just one hour in the contest and suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Spaniard. The Swiss contestant broke once in the game and failed to hold
serve in any of his games throughout the matchup.
It was an all-Spanish show at the clay court of Gstaad, with Granollers dominating every minute of the contest to come out as the winner in the end. Bohli proved to be a total mismatch for the eighth seeded Spaniard in the contest
and appeared in all sorts of confusions right from the beginning. His error-ridden game wore him out in the contest, as the Swiss coughed plenty of silly mistakes to bestow easy points to Granollers.
The opening set was stuffed with thrilling action, mostly performed by the Spaniard. With a below par serve precision of 55 per cent, Granollers secured 9 out of 11 first serve points in the opener to get the better of his opponent
early. He stung a serve break in the very first game of the match and then nailed two more consecutive break point conversions to rocket away to 5-0 lead in just 20 minutes of play.
Bohli finally converted his second chance to break the opponent’s serve in the sixth game but it all came away too late. Granollers belted his fourth serve break of the set to close out the opener at 6-1, getting a commanding position
in the matchup.
The Spaniard proved even merciless in the following set and absolutely devastated Bohli to race away to victory. Granollers broke his opponent’s serve in every single game and concluded the second set at 6-0 to move into the next
round of Suisse Open Gstaad.
Up next for Granollers in the second round of the tournament is the Russian competitor, Igor Andreev, who won his opening round match against Mischa Zverev of Germany.
