Marcel Hossa?

I was talking with my father and we both were saying we heard Marcel Hossa is not resigning with Phoenix. Is that true? I'm just curious because I'm trying to keep track of all the UFAs and I'm now kind of stumped on him.

  1. nhlnumbers.com

Its obviously not up-to-the-minute but they update it daily / after a contract is released is set.  I go there a lot just to see if teams are able to sign certain players.  It lists all player salaries (per year), team cap, and other great information.

I'd say check that to see who the UFAs are and where different players are signed / through which seasons.

  2. I think Marcel Hossa is a tool to get Marian Hossa to join Phoenix. Maybe they both play in Phoenix? Maybe Marian signs and Marcal has second thoughts? Who knows what is going to happen until after July 1st and then after when the flood gates open and the dealing and wheeling begins.

  3. He's nothing special, just an average NHL who gets pub. because of his older and way-more talented brother.

  4. If I'm not mistaken,  I do believe Marcel Hossa is a RESTRICTED free agent this season, not unrestricted.  He isn't on the sports city free agents list for UFA's left wingers.  And according to that nhl numbers site, he is only a restricted free agent.  Hope that helps.

Edit:  Here is a list of all of the RESTRICTED free agents, which includes Marcel Hossa, seperated by team....  http://www.sportscity.com/nhl/2008-nhl-r...

Here is a list of UNRESTRICTED free agents, seperated by postition....  http://www.sportscity.com/NHL/NHL-Free-A...

Kate I am pretty sure he is Restricted. I have two websites saying he is.

Edit again....Kate, you could be right, and sorry if I'm wrong, since I'm tryin to help ya out, but  I just looked it up for a couple websites for you, and that one link you had was the only one I found that has him UFA.  That one guy said that NHL numbers is updated daily, and it has him as Restricted. Sports City is also updated daily and has him Restricted.

Another Edit....Ok i got it now.  He was a restricted free agent, but the Coyotes didn't make him an offer, so he is unrestricted now.  Thanks Kate :-)

  5. KATE- let me lay this all out to you... for one last time!

    SID- 9mil

    Malkin- 8mil (using that number)

    Hossa- 7.5mil

    Gonchar- 6mil

    Whitney- 3mil

    Fleury- 4.5mil (using that number

Total 38mil .... For one full line and a goalie!

You then have to sign.... 9 more forwards and 4 more defenseman and a backup goalie and a few healthy scratches... totalling 16 more players that have to fit into 18mil thats left over..... now take into account that you will have to have about 10mil of unused money (that can be used this year) going into next summer AND no one on the PENS  has a contract that is expiring except the guys you are keeping  next summer and giving raises to! Are you going to fill your roster this year with a bunch of guys on one year deals? I think not!

So lets say you sign ORPIK also for 4mil... now you have used 42mil and have 14mil now left to sign 15players.... getting a little thin now isnt it? The 3rd and 4th lines are going to be pretty weak, dont you think? What are you going to do when you face a deep team like DETROIT? Roll 2 lines? Hardly!

The back half of the PENS will be weak as h**l! And teams will expose them badly.... they need to take that Money they would have spent on HOSSA and build a deep team... not a team of 5 Stars and Scrubs that all make under 1mil a year! The Pens wont have depth! Just my take! I think Shero is digging himself a hole if he signs Hossa!

The PENS are really in a mess... and many faces will change every year if they have all that money tied up in 6 or 7 players!
