‘Marcel Kittel must put his own house in order,’ Jakob Fuglsang
Marcel Kittel criticised the cyclists joining the Kazakhstani side, Team Astana for the season ahead, objecting that the team is run by Alexander Vinokourov who himself served a two-year blood doping ban.
The German tweeted earlier, "I feel SICK when I read that Contador, Sanchez & Indurain still support Armstrong. How does someone want to be credible by saying that?”
"I've heard rumours about what type of team Astana is. The Kazakhs, even the non-riders, simply have a different mentality," he told Het Nieuwsblad.
However, Jakob Fuglsang who started his professional endeavour with Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank in 2009 and moved to Team Leopard Trek in 2011, ending up with Team RadioShack-Nissan for the 2012 season believes that the German must correct himself before
pinpointing others.
"I think Marcel Kittel must put his own house in order. It is not so long ago that he had his own problems in Germany, where he had used some methods that were not quite correct," Fuglsang said to Sporten.dk.
Marcel admitted the use of ultraviolet blood treatment before coming to the professional scene, which was later banned by WADA.
Fuglsang recently accepted an offer from the Kazakhstani squad and will be seen in Team Astana colours for the season ahead.
He believes that Team Astana is a balanced side and it is almost impossible to find a team without a doping history.
For instance Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank and Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step are also out of question because there are cyclists on both the teams that were linked with doping previously in their career.
“Vinokourov is of course among the more prominent, but I think he has learned from the mistakes he has committed”.
Alexander Vinokourov faced a two-year ban for blood doping from 2007-09 and is also accused of paying his Russian rival Alexandre Kolobnev, a sum of 150,000 Euros to win the Liege-Bastogne-Liege classic 2010.
Fuglsang voiced that it is still not proved whether or not Alexander paid for the victory and believes that taking the World Tour licence away from Team Katusha and Team Astana on such claims would be unjust.
