Marcel Kittel of Team Argos-Shimano continued enjoying his tremendous form after the first place finish at the Scheldeprijs
The German sprinter Marcel Kittel rode brilliantly to overcome his competitors during the tiring 202.2 kilometres race, Scheldeprijs.
It was difficult rainy conditions but Kittel had things under control as he sprinted, passed the finish line in a fastest time of 4 hour, 30 minutes and 52 seconds.
Tyler Farrar of Team Garmin-Barracuda, Theo Bos of Team Rabobank Cycling Team, Romain Feillu of Team Vacansoleil and Manuel Belletti of Team Ag2R finished at the next four positions.
Kittel started his professional pursuit with Team Skil-Shimano in 2011 and is currently riding for the second consecutive season with the team.
The cyclist rode brilliantly during his first season as a professional and filled his bag with a number of victories in the 2011 season.
He claimed stages at the Tour de Langkawi, Quatre Jours de Dunkerque, Delta Tour Zeeland, Tour de Pologne, Vuelta a Espana and the Herald Sun Tour.
The 23-year old occupied the first overall spot at the ProRace Berlin, Rund um Koln, Delta Tour Zeeland, Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen, Münsterland Giro and the Amstel Curacao Race in the past season.
Marcel continued his tremendous 2011 form during the second professional season and helped the side with as many as five stage wins and an overall victory in the season already.
He occupied the 2nd stage of the Etoile de Besseges, 3rd and the 6th stages of the Tour of Oman and a stage 2 victory at the Three Days of De Panne 2012.
Kittel’s victory during the Scheldeprijs marked a perfect start to his 2012 campaign.
He was delighted after the victory and noted that Cavendish’ absence from the race made the event a bit less interesting.
Marcel told Sporza, "I'm really happy to have won the centenarian edition of this race. This is a race every sprinter dreams about so I'm really happy to be on the list of winners".
"I look forward to racing him [Cavendish]. When I heard he was not here I was a little disappointed but I think he has a very good reason to stay at home", he concluded.
It will be interesting to see, if Kittel continues his winning momentum to capitalise on the remaining part of the season.
