Marcel Kittel targeting stage wins at the Paris-Nice 2012
After a remarkable start to his 2012 season, Marcel Kittel is targeting stage victories at the Paris-Nice 2012.
The German claimed the second stage of the Etoile de Besseges, as the first victory of his 2012 campaign. He also secured the third and the sixth stages at the Tour of Oman 2012.
The cyclist is now relaxed at the second UCI World Tour event and is aiming to grab at least one stage at the Paris-Nice 2012.
His outstanding form was evident during the Tour of Oman, as he overcame Andre Greipel and Mark Cavendish to claim the stage victories.
Kittel briefed that his performance in Oman has given a real boost to his confidence, which will definitely help him for the coming races in the season.
He also mentioned that his side, Team Project 1t4i, helped him with the victories.
Marcel started his professional crusade with the Dutch team in 2011, and is keen to continue with the team for the second consecutive season.
While commenting on his future plans, he briefed, "Of course, everybody looks at me differently now. I'm not a nobody anymore”.
He continued, “But I'm not the kind to put pressure on myself now, telling myself 'I absolutely need to win' or that kind of thing”.
Kittel cited that riding the top level of the sport has always been his dream and he is in an ideal form to achieve that honour.
"Of course, I want to go as high as possible. It's a big objective for me, but like I said, I don't put myself under pressure. I take things one at a time," he noted.
The 23-year-old explained that his team-mate John Degenkolb will lead the team at the Milan-Sanremo, starting on March 17.
Marcel noted that Paris-Nice is his first goal of the 2012 season and will continue his form at the Tour de France 2012.
He grabbed the seventh stage at the Vuelta a Espana 2011 and is all set to make his debut at the French Grand Tour.
Kittel’s 2011 season was filled with a number of victories and he is hoping to continue his winning momentum in the later part of the current season.
