Marcel Kittel thanks his team Skil-Shimano after taking yellow jersey - Cycling News
Skil-Shimano rider Marcel Kittel was very happy with his performance after winning his third consecutive stage win in Tour de Pologne and also took the overall leader’s yellow jersey in Katowice on Tuesday, August 2.
The 23-year-old German racing cyclists took the overall lead with the timing of 8 hours, 55 minutes while Adrian Kurek (Poland) was runner-up with 17 seconds behind Kittel.
Kittel told the media, that he was very happy with his team-mates effort and Skil-Shimano did a great job. Every victory gives him more confidence in the stage and builds a more respect from his team cyclists and this is good for Kittel and his team-mates.
Marcel explained, “I think it'll be a stage more for Johannes Fröhlinger than for me, It’s a hard stage. Not as much as the two days after, but I'm very unsure whether Marcel will follow the best riders. That's said it might happen. It depends on how the
race is going."
Previously, Kittel took the European championship-Individual time trial in 2009 and the German championship-Individual time trial (U23) in 2010.
In this season Kittel won the one stage of Tour de Langkawi in January. He also took the one stage and overall standing of Delta Tour Zeeland. He continues his good effort in the other stage and took four stages of Quatre Jours de Dunkerque and also won
ProRace Berlin.
In the overall standing Gianluca Maggiore of De Rosa - Ceramica Flaminia was in third place with the difference of 22 seconds ahead of Romain Feillu (Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team) and Heinrich Haussler (Team Garmin-Cervelo).
Marcel also took the green jersey in the point’s classification with 60 points ahead of Romain Feillu and Heinrich Haussler.
Kittel further added, "In the next stages I’m going to be especially careful to 'survive' the mountains and I’m going to try to help my team-mates whenever I can. The work paid off. Now I feel more confident in the sprint and this also gives great motivation
to me and all my team."
The next stage will start in Oświęcim and ended in Cieszyn. All the cyclists will cover the distance of 176.9 kilometres.
