Marcel Kittel wins first stage and also takes overall lead in 2011 Delta Tour Zeeland: Cycling News
Skil-Shimano team’s Marcel Kittel showed his tremendous performance in the first stage of 2011 Tour Zeeland on Saturday, June 11.
The race started in Middelburg and ended in Goes. German racing cyclist took a total of 4 hours, 18 minutes and 47 seconds to cover the distance of 192.8 kilometres.
Recently, Marcel won the fifth stage of Tour de Langkawi and took the first spot in ProRace Berlin. He also grabbed the third place in Rund um Koln.
Theo Bos of Rabobank was in the second spot, Aidis Kruopis of Landbouwkrediet finished third and Yauheni Hutarovich of FDJ came in the fourth spot.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hans-c61421 Dekkers tried his best to maintain his pace, but he failed and grabbed 50th spot with 8 seconds down from the group of 49 cyclists.  
Coen Vermeltfoort was disqualified from the stage because of injury. The Directeur Sportif Nico Verhoevan told the media, “After only five meters he fell. At first I thought what is he doing? It seemed Coen tried to jump off the stage. It was very slippery,
but as far as I know, Coen was the only one who had problems. It’s very sad. This was a major target for him as well as the Ster Elektro Tour next week.”
With 100 kilometres to go, a group of six cyclist made their first breakaway, including, Niels http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Philip-Anthony-Jaques-c82032 Cycling), Tom Veelers (Skil – Shimano)
and Sander Oostlander (Cyclingteam De Rijke).
All of them built lead of few seconds over the peloton, but Tom Veelers had good leg and won the first sprint of the race ahead of Joost Van Leijen.
In the final sprint of the race, Theo Bos and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Harrington-Matthews-c75938 maintained his pace, but Michael Matthews won the last sprint with 5 points. Theo Bos was in the second spot with 3 points.
Marcel Kittel also took a lead in point’s classification and took overall leader’s yellow http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jersey-c41001 with a timing of 4 hours, 23 minutes and 18 seconds. Theo Bos was runner-up with 4 seconds behind Marcel.
Jos http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Emden of Rabobank was in the third spot with a difference of 2 seconds.
The next stage will start in Terneuzen and all the riders will cover a distance of 195.8 kilometres.
