Marcel Reuter crushes Tomas Vaskevicius to surge into quarter-final of European Universities Games
Germany’s emerging shuttler Marcel Reuter stormed into Men’s Singles quarter-final after showed his inspiring skills against Lithuania’s Tomas Vaskevicius in round-of-16 showdown at the European Universities Games-Badminton Individual Tournament in Spain,
on Monday, July 16.
Marcel, who has been positioned at number three in Men’s Singles seeding in the event, was one class above his Lithuanian rival as he played composed badminton in a relaxed fashion and eventually won the battle without any trouble.
The third seeded Marcel found a staggering start as he played attacking badminton aiming to put pressure on his rival and managed to finish off the battle in straight sets with a lopsided margin on the board.
On contrary, Vaskevicius tried to create trouble for his higher ranked German rival as he played aggressive badminton in starting rallies but failed to take any advantage as his rival was too strong. He lost this pre-quarter-final battle in a one-sided manner
with a huge difference.
Marcel started his run with an incredible speed as he did not take much time in setting up a huge lead at the early stage of opening set.
The German man was in his prime form as he played with impressive comfort and took the bird quite early which gave him many options to place his shots. Until the break, he got a strong position by taking a good lead.
After the one-minute interval, Marcel injected more power into his shots without showing any respect to his opponent and won the set easily with a spectacular margin of 21-12.
In the second game, Vaskevicius also played well but gave up a strong fight as his rival took an early lead by playing incredible badminton. He was impressively fast on court and managed a huge lead until the one-minute break.
After the one-minute interval, the in-form Marcel remained on track without showing any sign of confusion on court.
The German shuttler was in pretty much control of rallies and easily ended up the second set with a one-sided 21-10 margin on the board.
Marcel ended up this pre-quarter-final battle in straight games with a completely lopsided score of 21-12 and 21-10.
