Marcel Reuter slays Iztok Utrosa to claim Men’s Singles title at Banuinvest International 2012
Germany’s emerging player Marcel Reuter made his presence felt to the world as he claimed Men’s Singles title after beating Slovenia’s Iztok Utrosa in the title match of Banuinvest International 2012 in Romania, on Sunday, March 18.
Marcel, who is currently World Number 98 in Men’s Singles category, showed a gutsy performance and won the final contest against Iztok with a wonderful ease.
The fourth seed in the tournament Marcel was in complete command in the title match and ended it in straight games with a convincing margin without facing any tough resistance.
In the opening set, both men showed their impressive skills by playing fast and attacking badminton.
They remained toe-to-toe in the opening rallies and also snapped each other’s heel by keeping the tempo quite fast.
The higher ranked German showed a slightly better performance until the end of first half and managed a small lead.
On the other hand, Iztok could not maintain his positive run in the game and lost his focus until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Marcel played dominating badminton by taking the bird early from all areas of the court and stretched his lead.
He manipulated all loopholes of his lower raked rival and managed to win the first set with a decent 21-17 score on the board.
In the second set, both shuttlers again put up an entertaining show of attacking badminton as they did not miss any chance to bury the bird by executing powerful smashes.
They remained neck-to-neck in the first half of second game and remained close on the score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the German started to played fast game at net and forced his rival to lift the bird high in the air.
This strategy worked well in his favour as he found many weak returns and remained successful in earning points with his impressive smashes.
On the other hand, Iztok was taking the bird late from all areas and remained struggling far behind his German rival.
Marcel did not lose his focus at any stage and went on to win the game with a four-point margin of 21-17.
The German emerged as the winner of this title match with a decent 21-17 and 21-17 score on the board.
