Marcel Siem finishes the French Open with a stunning final round
The French Open 2012 came to an end on Sunday, July 8. The event, which took place at one of the toughest golf courses in Europe, Le Golf National, exhibited four amazing days of golf.
The end brings a winner and this time it was Marcel Siem. This was Siem’s second European Tour win in his 12 years of professional golf.
The German started off his day with a four-under par. He scored three-under par, three-under par and two-over par on the first, second and third day, respectively.
On the front nine, Siem carded three birdies on the third, sixth and ninth hole which made his score seven-under par. On the back nine, he was only able to manage two birdies on the fourteenth and fifteenth hole.
Siem ended his tournament with a bogey, which made his total score four-under par for the day and his total score for the tournament was eight-under par.
This tournament made Siem the third German to have won this tournament, the other two being Bernhard Langer and Martin Kaymer.
On the closing ceremony, Siem was given a trophy and a cash prize of €525,000. In an interview after the tournament, he said, “I'm so happy. This means a lot to me. First, after eight years it doesn't matter what kind of tournament you won; it's huge, because
you've got the confidence again”.
“Every time I've played consistent golf this year, and there were so many times up there, I couldn't make it.  Stupid things happened the whole time”.
The 31-year-old was very delighted about his win. He also talked about how important this win was for him.
“I love this golf course. I always loved it and I love it even more or even better now. I'm super happy”. He added. “I was very nervous, I have to say, after 14 when I made the up and down out of the trap”.
In the tournament, the second position was occupied by the Italian professional golfer Francesco Molinari, who finished his Open with seven-under par. He ended his day with the best round in the tournament.
