Marcello Lippi claims that he would pounce on the opportunity to manage Real Madrid
Former Italy manager, Marcello Lippi, has stated his desire to be the manager of Spanish club Real Madrid. The 63-year-old is currently unemployed after being sacked as the Italian head-coach. The Azzurri were the defending champions for FIFA World Cup 2010 but they crashed out in the group stages to seal a humiliating campaign.
Lippi has the reputation of being one of the top managers in European football. Apart from guiding Italy to World Cup glory in 2006, the Italian has won numerous titles with different Serie A clubs.
Ever since his exit from the national setup, Lippi has been linked with a number of clubs including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 and Juventus, however, the Italian has ruled out a move to Italy’s domestic competition as he is looking for a new challenge.
It is reported that Lippi plans to manage an English Premier League club but the ideal situation for him would be to coach Real Madrid should there be an opening at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
He said, "I am waiting for the right offer whether it's a club or a national team I will accept. There have been some offers, but I thought they were not right.”
"I would be very attracted to the Premier League. As for Real Madrid, who would not go there? I would run there. In the past they had offered me the job, but I decided to stay on at Juventus." Added the former Italy coach
Real Madrid, under Jose Mourinho’s leadership, are flying high at the moment as they are in contention to capture three trophies. Los Blancos are through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League while they have also made it to the Copa del Rey final – Madrid meet bitter rivals Barcelona in both the competitions.
Furthermore, Los Galacticos still have an outside chance of winning the Spanish La Liga title as they are the second placed team in La Liga standings.
Mourinho has hinted that he might look for a move to Barclays Premier League come the end of the current campaign. Should that be the case, the managerial position will be vacant at Santiago Bernabeu stadium. It would be interesting to see how things develop and if Mourinho indeed travels elsewhere, then Lippi would certainly be a contender to be in charge of Los Blancos.
