Marcello Lippi ready to return to coaching, hints at Chelsea move
Marcello Lippi, the 63-year-old former Italy coach, revealed he was ready to return to coaching after the summer break.
Lippi led http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757.
The Italians were undoubtedly one of the biggest disappointments of the tournament, failing to make it past the group stages.
Having previously managed clubs like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003, Juventus and Internazionale and having had relative success with them, Lippi is eager to return to club football once again.
Lippi suggested he would be willing to consider a move away from Italy and confirmed he would be looking at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 offers in the summer.
Lippi said in an interview:
“I'm ready to come back, because the time of rest is at an end.
During this season I have had a lot of offers but have preferred to rest. Now I am thinking of coming back.
I will evaluate the offers that arrive and choose the one that I consider most exciting.”
He is amongst the few managers who have managed to prove themselves in both club and country football.
During his two terms at Juventus, Lippi led the Serie A side to 5 Italian League Championships, 4 Supercoppa Italia, 1 of Coppa Italia, UEFA Champions league, European Supercup and Intercontinental Cup each.
While in charge of Italy he led them to the biggest prize imaginable in the footballing world, the World Cup.
That alone makes him one of the greatest managers in the world, having previously been named as the world’s best football manager twice by the IFFHS in 1996 and 1998.
Lippi was previously linked with a move to English Premier League side, a rumor which has intensified after Blues coach Carlo Ancelotti was sacked.
Even though Ancelotti delivered the Blues’ first ever domestic double in his first season at the club, he could not deliver any silverware this season, which is why he was sacked.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 owner Roman Abramovich is known for his intolerance for failure and does not hesitate before replacing managers.
The Italian manager himself hinted he was considering a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, but did not specify if the London club was his next destination.
Along with Lippi there are other manager’s linked with the Chelsea job; Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Andres Villas Boas and Marco van Basten.
After the statement confirming the removal of Ancelotti, Chelsea have made no further comments regarding the manager’s post.
