The head of Italian Referees’ Association (AIA) believes that the referee was not wrong in the sending-off of the shot-stopper; lamenting on the rule’s silliness.
There has been incessant debate on the validity of certain rules that govern the beautiful game, even UEFA refereeing chief, Pierluigi Collina, threw his weight behind a change in such rules.
AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Miroslav-Klose-c26049 in the German’s attempt to score a goal, and as the rules
dictate, the Dutch stopper was sent-off with a penalty awarded to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775.
Another reason for the controversy to escalate was with respect to the importance of the match, the capital derbies are extremely high profile, with every refereeing decision coming under scrutiny.
Collina, UEFA Chief of Referees, has recently stated his intent of discussing these changes on the International Football Association Board (IFAB), so that such fouls would culminate in yellow cards rather
than straight red.
The AIA Head was in agreement with his fellow countryman, stating that this greatly imbalanced the game, with one team benefiting far greater than they should.
Regarding Stekelenburg’s sending off, Nicchi gave his opinion and his views on the subject of contention, remarking:
“The expulsion of the goalkeeper who conceded the penalty is a ridiculous rule, but the referee complied with the regulation... this rule should be changed because it is different from a malicious foul. It
is absurd that the goalkeeper must now serve a one-game ban - it is a penalty served three times.”
Mauro Bergonzi was the referee in the derby, and there was an incident involving racial abuse on Giallorossi defender, Juan, with many circles suggesting that the game should have been stopped. The AIA head
commented:
“The referee has no right to suspend the game. The decision is down to - and needs to be taken by - those in charge [at the stadium].”
There were criticisms on the refereeing standards in the Roma derby, but, Roma midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniele-De-Rossi-c10112, feels the referee made the right calls.
