Just wondering what all you AGW skeptics have to say about that. Is Global Warming still a myth?

  1. You do understand that's only "on record" for the years they started keeping "records"!  It's  rather recent , in a historical sense.  And really not much to go on if you're making a case for global warming.

  2. AGW ?

  3. Sorry.....I'll have to get back to you when it stops snowing.  It's going to start again this evening, and go through Sunday.  It's been snowing here since October (for the past 7 months).

So it's supose to be warm someplace, huh?  It's 9AM my time.  It's done nothing but get darker here since I woke up, as the clouds pile up.

It's very difficult for people who have been getting snowed on for the past 7 months to get real worked up about GW.  By the way...I do believe it's real....after all Mars is warming up same as the earth.  The sun causes these things.

  4. Globally, based on the Land-Ocean index, March 2008 was the SECOND warmest on record (March 2005 was the warmest).  But, Jan-Mar 2008 was only the ELEVENTH warmest on record (i.e. it was pretty cool ).  The DJF average for 2007-2008 was the lowest since 1996.  All of this means very little, however, since we are talking about short term events.  The cold January and February 2008 temperatures do not in and of themselves prove that the global warming trend has ended, nor does the warm March 2008 temperature prove that it is progressing.  Longer term averages are what count.  The five year average published by GISS has been essentially flat for the past three periods.  The rolling five year average (a slightly different measure) has also been flat for the past three years.  These two measurements may indicate that warming has ended for now, or they may simply be minor cycles within a continued warming trend.

Analysis of the entire temperature record, however, shows that there is an obvious  64 year cycle that consists of a 32 year period of stable or slightly falling temperatures followed by a 32 year period of increasing temperatures.  We are in year 30-31 of the second increasing period in the record, so if the cycle holds, we should expect the recent warming to end in the next few years.

  5. Don't forget weather patterns are largely cyclical and outside of our control.  However, doing what we can to minimize our impact on global warming can't hurt.  I don't believe GW is a myth at all, and do believe humans contribute to it.

However, I don't agree with all the scare tactics taken by some in the media who predict doom and peril if we don't change our ways immediately.  The earth is much too large and powerful for human activity alone to impact on the scale they are predicting.  We do impact to some extent, and should aware of how our actions contribute to the problem.

  6. data from noaa

they will seamlessly move on to 'yes we never said it wasnt warming, but; its not our fault, we cant do anything about it,  it doesnt matter, its a good thing etc. ad nauseum....'

you can already see it happening here on yahoo..... although it has all been a bit quiet last day or so, since bush finally came out as a believer lol!

  7. It was?  What is the source of your information?  March was about 20 degrees below normal in these parts (central Indiana).  Not disputing what you're saying, I'd just like to know where you get your information.
