Here are some songs the show is based on:

Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song by Samuel Hazo:

(part of this is in both our opener and closer)

Songs from a japanese drama called Toshiie to Matsu:

(the ending half of the first song, Matsu's Theme, is our ballad, and our closer starts off with the finale of the second song, Toshiie to Matsu's main theme)

Half Demon Inuyasha

(this is in both our opener and closer)

It's gonna be pretty d**n sick, our arranger said he arranged it in a somewhat DCI format. We also have Myron Rosander making the drill for us! (if you don't know who that is, google him up)

Anyway, back to the question. Our band director is asking us to submit names for the field show ASAP. Anyone got any cool suggestions, using imagination from the info I gave above? Looking more for something in Japanese (in Romanji please, if you're gonna suggest something in Japanese)...

something really epic, fantasy, idk.. just suggest whatever you got! :)

  1. Why not suggest to name the show after its roots, since the whole show is Asian based? In Japan, "Toshie and Matsu" is part of what is called "Taiga drama" (大河ドラマ, "Taiga dorama?", literally "Big River Drama"). It was also known as: "Toshiie and Matsu / Love Shines Through"

    From Wikipedia:

Taiga drama (大河ドラマ, Taiga dorama?, literally Big River Drama) is the name NHK gives to the annual, year-long historical fiction television series it broadcasts in Japan. Beginning in 1963 with the black-and-white Hana no Shōgai, starring kabuki actor Onoe Shōroku and Takarazuka star Awashima Chikage, the network has hired a producer, director, writer, music director, and actors for the series. The 45-minute show airs on the NHK General network every Sunday at 8:00 p.m., with rebroadcasts on Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Satellite, HDTV digital satellite, and NHK World Premium broadcasts are also available.

The "Toshiie and Matsu" series was run in 2002. It was the first to be broadcast in High Definition. Also known as: "Toshiie and Matsu / Love Shines Through"

The 41st NHK Taiga Drama is Toshiie to Matsu. During the turbulent Warring States Era, one man's life and career intertwined with the three great generals of Japanese history-Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu. With political savvy and the support of his fiercely loyal wife, Maeda Toshiie rose to second in power in the shogunate and built up a fiefdom that encompassed Echizen, Noto and Kaga.

With a drama background like that, all of the songs that your band will be playing will easily fit within that overall title.

Sounds like a fun show! Enjoy it!
