Marco Belinelli stars as New Orleans Hornets decimate Golden State Warriors, 102-87 -NBA Recap
On Wednesday night, New Orleans Hornets used a strong first half to hand a 102-87 defeat to the Golden State Warriors at the Oracle Arena.
Hornets had 4 players hitting double figure index. Marco Belinelli, who was drafted by Warriors in 2007, greeted his former team with 22 points and 6 assists. Jarrett Jack barely missed his double-double with 20 points and 9 assists.
He was in great spirits after the game and showed no remorse for playing in a lowly team.
"When you get drafted into this league, there are certain things you sign up for. Obviously, you get the perks, the money, the travelling. But you have a job to do for 82 games -- obviously its 66 this time. Don't sell yourself
short. Don't sell the organization short. The city, the fans, they come out and support us every night, and we've got to pay them back by playing each and every game (hard), regardless of if you're in playoff contention or not."
Forward Carl Landry also tallied 20 points and had 8 boards while Jason Smith contributed 12 points in Hornets’ 13th victory of this season.
Golden State, on the other hand, skidded down to a 3 game losing streak despite having 4 players scoring in double figures. David lee tallied a game high 28 while Klay Thompson scored 13 points while Brandon Rush and Dorell Wright
collected 12 apiece for Warriors.
The opening frame was closely contested and late into the frame, the Hornets managed a slender 22-19 lead, which they stretched it to 27-24 by the end of 1st period.
New Orleans opened the second quarter with a dash, pulling off a 16-6 run for a double digit 43-30 lead. Warriors seemed toothless on the offense in that frame and by the end of 1st half, New Orleans were leading comfortably
with a 57-40 advantage.
Hornets cruised through the 3rd and with 3:26 in hand were still ahead by 73-62 lead. They capped the segment with an 8-3 run and ballooned their advantage to 81-65.
The hapless Warriors couldn’t inflict any harm to the mammoth lead in the decisive frame as well. With 4:42 to go in the game, Hornets were leading by 96-77 and even though their victory was never in doubt but Belinelli and Jack
came up with a 3 pointer each to finish the game in style.
