Marco Botti counting on a victory in the Princess of Wales's Stakes with Joshua Tree or Jakkalberry
Trainer Marco Botti wants to wind up in the winning circle after winning the Group 2, £109,150 Princess of Wales's Goldsmiths Stakes, which is scheduled to take place at Newmarket on 12th July, 2012.
Covering a distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs, he is hoping that it’ll either be Joshua Tree or Jakkalberry, who will notch a majestic victory.
Owned by ATB Jakkalberry Sy, Porter and Duke, the six-year-old has claimed nine victories in his twenty-three starts and, it is time to gain the tenth one in this mega-event. The runner’s season does not have a victory yet and, this might be his chance
to go and get it.
The son of Storming Home recently competed at Royal Ascot, where he rode under jockey, Silvestre De Sousa, and finished in fifth place in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes over 1 mile and 4 furlongs.
Botti has some ground concerns regarding, Jakkalberry, because he is better suited to ground that is dry. Regarding this, the trainer commented:
"We are just monitoring how much rain there is at Newmarket because he is a fast-ground horse - he would be fine with a little bit of cut in the ground but he wouldn't want it too soft.”
The trainer reflected on the performance the bay horse delivered at Meydan in March, 2012, where he competed in the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy Sponsored By Attijari Al Islami and, Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic Presented By Longines, where he finished
third in both starts, saying that he was in the best form then.
The trainer is also counting on, Joshua Tree, the five-year-old horse who has also failed to secure a victory this season.
The son of Montjeu, foaled by mare Madeira Mist, delivered his best performance of the season at Meydan as well, when he lost by ¾ of a length to, Opinion Poll, in the Group 3 Dubai Gold Cup Sponsored By Al Tayer Motors.
The trainer is considering running him in the American St Leger as he commented:
"We are keen to get a run into him because we want to keep him fit for the new race on the Arlington Million card over a mile, five and a half furlongs."
