Marco Demecillo retains title by collecting third-round knockout win over Marvin Mabait – Boxing News
Marco Demecillo, the Philippines Games & Amusement Board (GAB) super flyweight champion, successfully defended his title for the second time and avenged his previous draw decision against arch rival Marvin Mabait, the former Philippines Games & Amusement
Board (GAB) super flyweight champion, by collecting an authoritative third-round knockout win on April 22, 2012.
The ring for the 12-round bout was stretched at Mactan Shrine situated in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines and the event was promoted by Rex Wakee Salud of RWS International.
The above duo headlined the Sunday night show and the non-title 10-round bout between Fernando Ocon and JR Estremos co-headlined the pay-per-view. The two pugilists possessed an equal extent of experience and therefore it was duly predicted that the bout
would be a tooth and nail one.
Marco was in his career’s 17th bout and boasted an undefeated win streak with just one draw decision against Marvin. The Filipino proud, widely known as ‘Marco Singwancha’, grabbed his title from Nelson LIanos after collecting a second round knockout decision.
He, later on, successfully defended it against Lowie Bantigue by collecting a ninth round technical knockout win. The 21-year-old lad boasted 11 of his total 15 wins by knockout and follows a straight forward upfront brawling stance.
Demecillo’s Sunday night opponent, Marvin, 24, was in his 19th career bout and boasted 16 wins, 10 via knockout. This was the second time both men met in the ring one-on-one. In their previous four-round battle in 2009, Marco was making his debut and the
bout ended in a draw decision. Since then Marco has moved on and annihilated every single opponent.
The odds were equally distributed since both men have collected wins over several big names and possessed impressive pugilism, talent and ability to knock the opponent out cold.
Marco started things off authoritatively while setting the pace and taking the bout to Marvin. In the first round, Marvin threw a heavy duty jab that flattened Marco on the ring floor but the champion stood up immediately and counter attacked by his vicious
jabs.
During the second round, Marco continued targeting Marvin’s chin and body inflicting as much damage possible. In the third round, Marvin lost his control and fell on the ring floor but stood up with great effort eventually breaking the referee’s 10-count.
This was his biggest mistake as Marco immediately moved in and leashed a series of jabs that numbed him. His corner men intervened and the bout-referee called off the bout since Marvin was unable to defend himself.
With this impressive title defence, Marco now has 16 wins in his account and 12 by KO whereas Marvin has collected his careers first ever defeat in a total 19 bouts.
