Marco Fu aiming to get back into Top 16: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Hong Kong’s Marco Fu started his 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament campaign with a tremendous victory over England’s Joe Perry by the score line of 5-1 when he showed his great game in the opening round at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria.
After that the Taipei potter continued his good game and made his way straight to the semi-final encounter of the event where he faced the former World Snooker Championship winner and the 2012 China Open winner, Peter Ebdon of England.
However, despite his impressive game throughout the tournament, Fu failed to maintain his good form in the penultimate clash and tumbled down against Ebdon by the score line of 6-2. The Hong Kong potter could add only one frame to his side of the score line
in the first session of the match. The first session finished with 3-1 score line.
Ebdon clinched one more frame in the second session to move 4-1 up while Fu failed to improvise this time. However, he claimed one frame victory in the second session but that was not enough for him to chase Ebdon and he tumbled down in the event.
Regardless of his defeat at the hands of Ebdon, Fu is determined to regain his place back in the Top 16 potters which he lost last season due to lower performances in some major ranking snooker tournaments.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Fu said, “I think that, apart from playing Joe Perry in the first round, this was probably the best I'd played this week. But sometimes when you're playing well it doesn't mean I can convert it into a victory.”
He added, “My target for the season has definitely got to be getting back into the top 16 in the rankings and I'm still quite a way behind. But getting to the semis will definitely help but I need a really solid performance to get back into the top 16 by
the end of the World Championship next year. That's got to be my target, but it's going to be very difficult.”
Fu will now be aiming to make an appearance in the upcoming major ranking snooker events so that he can earn more match points to improve his rankings.
