Marco Fu beats Gerard Greene to book his place in 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Line-up of the televised stages of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event is almost complete as the final round of the qualifying session has finished featuring 16 potters who will meet their opponents in the initial round at the Bendigo Stadium arena
in Victoria. The event will feature all top guns of the snooker, except the Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan who has pulled out of the tournament.
The final round of the qualifying session featured some easy clashes among the line-up. Hong Kong’s Marco Fu has also made his way into the initial round after beating Gerard Greene by the score line of 5-2 in the final qualifier. Fu played impressively
in the match-up to unsettle his opponent who seemed strong in the first session of the match.
Marco held a strong position from the beginning of the game and did not let his opponent put him under pressure. The first session was shared between both potters but Fu fought brilliantly in the second and fired some classy breaks of 134, 101 and 121 to
triumph over Greene. He will be facing England’s Joe Perry in the opening round of the tournament.
In other final round matches, England’s Michael Wild, who displayed some superb snooker skills during his qualifier run, faced the former World Snooker Championship winner, Ireland’s Ken Doherty in the further round. He compiled a whitewash victory over
the former six-time World Snooker Championship winner Steve Davis by the score line of 5-0 in the third round of qualifying session.
He was feeling very happy and confident when he set up Doherty clash because he had only one chance to play in the pro circuit. However, he failed to book his spot in the pro tour because Doherty treated him the same way he did Davis and ousted him by 5-0.
The veteran potter has set up England’s Martin Gould encounter in the first round of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open.
The event will commence from July 9 and will feature the likes of Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, Judd Trump, the defending champion Stuart Bingham and former four-time World Snooker Championship winner from Scotland, John Higgins.
