Marco Fu trashes Stephen Lee in quarter-final of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Outstanding performance from Hong Kong’s Marco Fu during his run of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open was tremendous that brought him into the quarter-final stage of the event where he was up against the winner of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship
(PTC) Grand Finals, England’s Stephen Lee.
Fu continued his superb form and was able to defeat the Englishman by an easy score line of 5-1.
As compared to Lee’s game and snooker skills, Fu seemed to have no chance against him and the critics were doubtful of his victory against a player like Lee who is on song. However, the Taipei potter proved that he is no ordinary potter and triumphed over
Lee in no time during his run in the match. Fu has now made his way into the semi-final stage of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open where he will be meeting the former World Snooker Championship winner, Peter Ebdon.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Fu said, “Today I played really well. I was able to capitalise on some of the important balls and got a bit of luck as well before the interval. I was just happy to go 3-1 up because it is very important to
build a strong platform for the rest of the game and I was able to play a lot better after the interval because the pressure was a little bit off.”
He added, “I felt relaxed out there and I'm very happy with my form. I'm happy to be in the semi-final, I'm still in the tournament.”
Fu cruised into the first frame victory in no time to nudge his opponent 1-0 down. However, Lee bounced back into the game after the start of the second frame and pulled level at 1-1 as he claimed the frame.
After that, Lee failed to add even a single frame to his side of the score board and slipped down in the game. Meanwhile, Fu cleared the table in the next four frames to make sure that he gets a place in the semi-final stage. The potter from Hong Kong will
be happy with his performance as he managed to beat Lee and advance in the tournament.
