Marco Huck: I want to defend my gold at all costs and this will be Ola Afolabi’s end – Boxing News
Marco Huck, the current WBO cruiserweight champion, recently said that he will defend his gold for the ninth time successfully at all costs against Ola Afolabi, his arch rival and former WBO intercontinental cruiserweight champion adding that this will be
the end of Ola and the Klitschkos should not avoid him by sending in their henchman.
Huck is scheduled to defend his gold for the second time against Ola Afolabi in a 12-roudn skirmish which will take place on Saturday May 5, 2012. The ring for the epic encounter will be stretched at Messehalle situated in Erfurt, Thuringen, Germany and
the pay-per-view will be jointly promoted by Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Event and Ulf Steinforth of Sport Events Steinforth.
The duo recently met at the pre-bout press conference and put forth the media their sheer determination in nailing the other one. This will be the second time that Ola and Marco will meet in the ring and for the same title.
Previously, Ola was unsuccessful in nailing the Berliner and collected not only a unanimous loss but also missed a chance to grab the apex divisional gold. Interestingly, the December 2009 skirmish was Huck’s first title defence bout.
Since then both men have entered and won numerous bouts. Ola, 32, took on five opponents and nailed all of them authoritatively. Huck, 27, well known as the ‘Kaptan Huck’, also moved on and defended his gold against seven pugilists.
Later on, Huck decided to test his luck and made an entrance in the heavyweight division by challenging Alexander Povetkin, the WBA world heavyweight champion.
Things did not go well for the surging Huck and he collected a majority decision against him which eventually pressurised him to return to his own cruiserweight division. In the brief press conference, Ola, infamous as the Kryptonite, shared the reason as
to why he is so confident in avenging his previous loss.
Ola, the Britain number one, commented, “Marco did not win the first fight, I lost it. Back then the environment I surrounded myself with was not as professional but now I am with K2 and the Klitschkos. Fritz Sdunek is my coach. All this provides me with
the mentality of a champion and I am ready to take out Huck.”
Marco, got a bit harsh on hearing the Klitschko name and said, “The Klitschkos should refrain from sending over their employees, and take me on themselves. It is all or nothing for Afolabi. I am here to win. It is fine to take risks but all I want is to
defend my title.”
The battle will be a toe-to-toe one since much facets are at stake. Ola not only needs to avenge his former inch-loss but also wants to prove that he is the best in the division. On the other hand, if Huck nails any of Klitschko’s sparring partner, it is
evident that he might get a chance to collide any one of the Ukrainian duo.
