Marco Huck respects Firat Arslan even more after title defence – Boxing News
Marco Huck went head to head with Firat Arslan on November 3 in Halle, Germany, to defend his WBO cruiserweight title. While Huck believed Arslan would be an easy catch, the showdown was tougher than his wildest imaginations. Huck almost had everything on
the line to defeat Arslan, as the challenger was not giving up easily.
“It was one of the toughest fights in my life,” said Huck. “I respected Firat before the fight and I respect him even more now. He really fought his heart out.”
Huck now believes that Firat deserves a rematch for the title in order to prove himself yet again.
“I am not happy and not satisfied with my own performance. I know I could and should have done better. I was a little distracted and thought about fighting the Klitschkos. So I lost my focus.
“Firat was at his best that night. He made me work hard for my money. It was a very close fight and I think he deserves a rematch.”
Huck turned 28 last Sunday and now he wants to establish his dominance in the cruiserweight division to cement his legacy. He also spoke of heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s title defence against Mariusz Wach past Saturday. According to Huck, it
was a disgrace for Wladimir to pick up an inferior opponent to defend his title. Wladimir won by a unanimous 12 round decision, dominating the entire fight.
According to Huck, Wach is not even a real boxer and that he is not worthy of a world title. Huck added that there were a lot better options for Wladimir to consider instead of Wach.
For now, Huck is looking forward to his next title defence and he is hoping it to be against Firat Arslan. Rarely it happens that a champion respects his opponent as much as Huck is respect Arslan. Undoubtedly, it was Arslan’s efforts and courage that got
him the respect of his opponent in the arena. For most fighters, being appreciated by a champion like Huck is a lot in its entirety, and that is probably what Arslan would be feeling right now.
