Marco Huck successfully defends his cruiserweight title against Ola Afolabi – Boxing News
WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck successfully defended his title against Ola Afolabi via draw by majority decision on Saturday night at the Messehalle in Erfurt, Germany. The German champion was proud of his achievement, while the British challenger
felt he had given his best yet could not achieve the milestone.
This was a rematch between both the fighters and initially Afolabi was leading, as he had promised fans. However, the later rounds, Huck made a huge comeback to show he is the better man. In fact, the champion felt exhausted by the sixth round, which made
his opponent confident of defeating. After the fight, Huck remarked, “I was tired early on, but I’m a fighter and I fought. Thankfully it was just enough in the end.”
He added, “It was a good fight. I am a real fighter and warrior, which is why I still have my title.”
Surprisingly, Afolabi was happy with his performance and he thought Marco was extremely good in the ring. He commented, “I give Marco a lot of credit. I thought he was tired around round six, but he just kept coming until round 12.”
However, Afolabi’s trainer Fritz Sdunek was not quite pleased with the way his fighter fought. He remarked, “At times Ola forgot to box. He was on top but let Marco surprise him. The result is alright but I am not happy with Ola’s performance.”
The champion’s trainer Ulli Wegner was proud of his boy when he said that he is extremely delighted to see Marco showing his power at the end of the fight and that both sides should be pleased with the results since the fight was a superb one.
The final round of the fight was the most interesting one when both the fighters gave in everything they had. However, none of them could knockout the other since they both are highly exhausted. Afolabi was staggering in the ring by the end and was on the
verge of a knockout. However, since even Huck was exhausted, he did not have the energy to end the fight with a final blow.
