Marco Koch acquires Men’s 200m breaststroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Marco Koch of Germany acquired gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, October 2.
The German swimmer dictated terms to his opponents in the distant breaststroke discipline and proved his mettle for the title of the event.
He experienced strong resistance from Daiya Seto of Japan in the eight-lap discipline but managed to outsmart him over the wall for the title. Koch stayed almost half body length ahead of his toughest challenger and tapped the wall for gold medal by producing
an effort of 2 minutes and 05.26 seconds.
The champion was followed by Seto, who stayed 0.46 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 05.72 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Sean Mahoney of USA, who stayed 0.24 seconds behind and stepped on the podium for bronze medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 05.96 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Anton Lobanov of Russia, who stayed 1.52 seconds slower from reaching the podium as he posted an effort of 2 minutes and 07.48 seconds.
Lobanov was followed by Neil Versfeld of South Africa, who stayed 0.23 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for fifth position with a timing of 2 minutes and 07.71 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was secured by Valerii Dymo of Ukraine, who stayed nearly 0.55 seconds behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.27 seconds.
Dymo was followed by Glenn Snyders of New Zealand, who was unable to live up to the expectations of his supporters as he remained 2.11 seconds apart and ended his race in seventh place with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.38 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Weijia Liu of China, who stayed 0.05 seconds apart and hit the wall with an effort 2 minutes and 10.43 seconds.
In addition, Koch was overjoyed with his gold finish in the tournament and received his medal after the event.
