Marco Koch clinches Men’s 100m breast-stroke heat: Day one - 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Day one of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series began in scintillating fashion with the impressive swim of Marco Koch in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Friday, October 7. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 100m breast-stroke and Men’s 100m butterfly
meets.
Marco Koch of Germany was up against strong rivals, Yuma Kosaka of Japan and Nelson Westby of United States. Koch thrashed both Kosaka and Westby by hitting the finishing wall with a nerve-wrecking mark of 1 minute and 00.68 seconds to qualify for the Men’s
100m breast-stroke final heat. In the meantime, Kosaka and Westby were placed second and third with a mark of 1:02.35 minutes and 1:02.43 minutes, respectively.
Mohammed Salem Mubarak Al Besher finished fourth in 1 minute and 02.46 seconds, while Giulio Zorzi of South Africa earned fifth spot in 1 minute and 02.74 seconds. Azad Albarazi of Syria wound up sixth in a time of 1 minute and 03.03 seconds, whereas, Jayaprakash
Agnishwar of India settled for seventh position in a time of 1 minute and 03.32 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Singapore’s Joel Jinyang Tan, United Arab Emirates’ Jasim Mohamed Shafee and Singapore’s Aaron Teo finished eighth, ninth and tenth with a mark of 1:04.29 minutes , 1:07.06 minutes and 1:08.96 minutes, respectively. Moreover, Ruslan
Nazarov and Atari Ahmed of Qatar wound up eleventh and twelfth with a time of 1:09.88 minutes and 1:10.37 minutes in the respective meet.
The Men’s 100m butterfly heat was clinched by Russia’s Evgeny Korotyshkin with a mark of 53.55 seconds. Austria’s Dinko Jukic and Russia’s Andrey Tambovskiy settled for second and third positions with a mark of 54.54 seconds and 55.10 seconds, respectively.
Velimir STJepanovic earned fourth and fifth positions with a time of 55.12 seconds and 55.18 seconds. Kenya’s Jason Dunford finished sixth in a time of 55.62 seconds, while South Africa’s Chad Clos Le settled for seventh spot in 55.92 seconds.
Rami Anis of Syria earned eighth place honours with a mark of 56.00 seconds and Ayman Klzie of Syria settled for ninth place in 56.45 seconds. Nelson Westby of United States of America finished tenth in a time of 56.89 seconds, whereas, Tiago Ferrao of United
Arab Emirates earned eleventh position in a time of 56.93 seconds.
All swimmers in the arena took a huge round of applause from the crowd due to their inspirational swims after the session’s completion.
