Marco Koch clinches Men’s 200m breaststroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Marco Koch of Germany clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
Koch faced strong competition from his toughest challenger, Daiya Seto of Japan, throughout the race and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal. He gained a slight lead over his rivals from the start and dominated his way throughout the race for
gold medal.
With his immaculate efforts in the eight-lap discipline, Koch remained half body length ahead of his opponents and touched the wall for gold medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 06.09 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Daiya Seto of Japan, who stayed 0.59 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as second best finisher with a timing of 2 minutes and 06.65 seconds.
Seto was trailed by Neil Versfeld of South Africa, who stayed 0.98 seconds apart and completed his race in third place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 07.63 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Gabriel Sousa of Brazil, who was 0.66 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.29 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Tales Cerdeira of Brazil, who was 2.18 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.47 seconds.
Cerdeira was chased by Neto Matheus Louro of Brazil, who was 0.34 seconds slower and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 10.81 seconds for sixth place.
Similarly, Louro remained one and a half body length ahead of Matti Mattson of Finland, who proved his eligibility for seventh place by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.37 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Pedro Cordona of Brazil, who was 6.05 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 18.42 seconds.
Koch was happy with his victory in the event and collected medal for his astonishing performance at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
