Marco Koch wins Men’s 100m breast-stroke title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
The evening session on day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series saw the thrilling swim of Marco Koch in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8, 2011. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 100m breast-stroke final race.
Germany’s Marco Koch, the hot favourite, was up against two other strong contestants of the race, Yuma Kosaka of Japan and Nelson Westby of United States of America. The swim started in thrilling fashion and it raised the interest of spectators present in
the arena. Koch beat his arch rivals, Kosaka and Westby comprehensively, by posting a winning time of 59.07 to win the Men’s 100m breast-stroke title. Meanwhile, the silver and bronze medals went to Kosaka and Westby with a time of 1 minute and 00.13 seconds
and 1 minute and 00.34 seconds, respectively.
In the corresponding race, the swims of United State Emirates’ Salem Mohamed Mubarak Besher Al, Syria’s Azad Albarazi and India’s Jayaprakash Agnishwar secured them fourth, fifth and sixth places with a mark of 1 minute and 02.22 seconds, 1 minute and 02.53
seconds and 1 minute and 03.25 seconds, respectively. In addition, Joel Jinyang Tan earned seventh place honours after he touched the finishing wall in the respective meet and ended his swim with a competitive mark of 1 minute and 05.03 seconds.
The arena applauded for the scintillating efforts of all contestants who put in their best effort to secure a podium finish in the event, while the top three winning contestants were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion. The 2011 FINA
Swimming World Cup is a very important series for all the athletes of world swimming, as it is providing them with an exciting opportunity to prepare themselves for their upcoming meets at the London Olympic Games, in 2012.
The FINA World Cup Series is scheduled to take place in some other cities including Stockholm, Moscow, Berlin, Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo. The next meet of the seven-stop series will take place in Stockholm, Sweden.
