Marco Kurz will continue his managerial duties with the Red Devils despite being hammered by Mainz in a much-anticipated derby at the weekend. Mainz played host to Kaiserslautern on Saturday, February 25, at the Coface Arena with
the O-Fives winning by a comprehensive 4-0 margin. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eric-Maxim-Choupo-Moting-c12712 scored goals for the home side.
This loss has pushed Kaiserslautern into the relegation zone but club chairman, Stefan k***z, has defended the manager after the embarrassing defeat. He feels that it was one bad day and is confident that the Fritz-Walter-Stadion
outfit will avoid relegation.
The chairman denied media reports that his side are considering to sack Marco Kurz after the recent run of poor results.
While talking to reporters after the game, the Chairman further added: "I would warn against pointing the finger at any individual. We are convinced that we can avoid relegation with this squad, and that includes the coaching team.
We continue to be convinced by them."
On the other hand, the manager accepted all the blame for his team’s defeat. He opined that the players were blow-par in the game which probably was the most important game of the season for Kaiserslautern.
However, Kurz is hopeful that his side will make a winning comeback next week and is aiming for a finish in the top-half of the table at the end of the season.
"You need to play better than this in a derby game. We did not have the quality to control this game at any one time. Today we hit rock bottom. But as head of this team, I take responsibility for their performance," the former
1860 Munich manager concluded.
As a result of the loss, Kaiserslautern finds themselves 17th in the league standings with 18 points while Mainz have climbed to the 11th spot with 27 points. The O-Fives will next be in action against Wolfsburg
while Mainz will travel away to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, March 3.
