The World Cup winning Italian defender has condemned all the players involved in the recent betting scandal, and reflected on Italy’s chances at the Championship.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan defender has come down hard on all those engaged in the betting scam that seems to have plagued Italian football once more. Investigation is under way and one of the players held under questioning is the
Italian left back, Domenico Criscito, who has also been left out of the national team squad by Cesare Prandelli due to the allegations pointed against him.
There appears to be a betting ring being operated which has meant that Italian football has come under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons once again. Materazzi went on to condemn that throwing away matches was a sickening
concept, and he felt sorry for them. The former Italian international has stated that it was being downright unfair to the fans of the game and further went on to state:
“Anyone who sells a game is pathetic. They are either stupid or sick, but more than anything else I pity them. How could they do that knowing there are so many fans who follow football with passion, even travelling to away games?”
The Scommessopoli scandal has hit Italian football much in the same manner as the Calciopoli scandal rocked Italian football before the World Cup in 2006. That World Cup was won by Italy and Materazzi was part of the team that
clinched the World Cup under the captaincy of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-Cannavaro-c13164.
There would be hope that this scandal unites the side as the Calciopoli scandal did, however, the former Nerazzurri stopper was quick to dismiss any such aspirations by stating that the two sides were quite different. He remarked
by stating:
“We were a strong squad and had been playing together for a long time, though. We had gone through the humiliation of the World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 side is young, I hope
they can win the way we did. Realistically, that is going to be tough.”
Besides Criscito’s absence from the Nazionale, Cesare Prandelli has had the misfortune of losing key players to injuries.
