Marco Paddy joins as special assistant to GM for Chicago Cubs – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs continue to add a pool of seasoned and experienced coaching staff in the club. On Wednesday, November 30, the Cubs decided to hire Marco Paddy as the special assistant to the general manager international operations.
The 47-year-old Paddy has experience of 14 seasons serving as an area scout (having been there from the year 1993 to 2002) with the Atlanta Braves in the Major League which serves as evidence of his experience.
All the same, he has served as the director of Latin America Operations for the Toronto Blue Jays. His task will essentially include the international signings. This is largely because he has a good record of hiring like Henderson Alvarez, a pitcher for
the Toronto Blue Jays.
Alvarez remained the two-time All-Star as Paddy came up with signing the infielder Adeiny Hechavarria of the Cuban Junior National Team. The list goes on. The Cubs seem to have a focus on bringing about a Latin American presence in the club.
Among other names, the presence of Dayan Viciedo and Alexei Ramirez are an infallible sign of it. As the next season is around the corner, the two players are expected to make their appearance in the 2012 MLB regular season.
With the arrival of Theo Epstein, such renewed changes in the team were predictable. But he had emphasised in a press talk that it cannot be called rebuilding. "I didn't use the world rebuilding and I wouldn't. I think that is just a buzzword in baseball
that leads people down the wrong path," Epstein said.
With Paddy out there now on scouting efforts, things are gradually taking shape. "The best way I can describe it is there are parallel fronts – the job of building the scouting and player development foundation that is going to serve well for the long haul
and treating every opportunity to win as sacred,” Epstein said.
With the new Latin American talent in the Chicago Cubs’ pool, it will be interesting to see how they all collectively contribute to the team’s success.
