Marco Pinotti hopeful that team HTC will find a sponsor for the coming season – Cycling News
The Italian cyclist and an individual time trial specialist Marco Pinotti has yet to decide a team for the 2012 season as he is hopeful that team HTC will find a sponsor for coming season. Most of the cyclists and staff members of team HTC have already found
new squads for themselves after the American team announced their dismissal towards the end of 2012.
Pinotti joined team Highroad in 2008 and has spent most of the time in his career with the team. He is still hopeful that team will find a sponsor for coming seasons as he mentioned, “I think we were all hoping that we’d find a new sponsor. The more time
passed the more difficult things become I suppose, but I was hoping to the very end that the team would be able to find a solution. ”
The Italian is recovering from a fractured pelvis as he was involved in a crash during the Giro d’ Italia and is still going through the rehabilitation process as he is trying to regain his muscle strength. He mentioned that it is a slow process but he
will eventually be back racing soon.
There were speculations that the 35-year-old has shown interest in signing team BMC on which he has commented that he has not yet decided about any particular team as he said, “I can’t confirm where I am going. I’m in the situation where I’m looking for
a new team for 2012 and I’ll make an official announcement in September.”
Pinotti turned professional in 1999 and has won 28 races so far as he finished second at the stage 15 of Tour de France, 2001 along with a stage four win and the King of Mountains jersey in Vuelta al Pais Vasco. Marco has been an individual time trial champion
five times in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Marco is hopeful that he will recover from the fracture as he is looking forward to riding in the Tour of Lombardy starting in October. He mentioned that he has made a great progress in the previous two weeks and will be ready to race by the end of September
or by the start of October, 2011.
