Marco Pinotti wins the final stage of the Giro d’Italia 2012
Marco Pinotti could not have asked for a better venue to register the much needed victory for the 2012 victory.
The cyclist rode brilliantly throughout the first Grand Tour race of the season, the Giro d’Italia 2012 and has been rewarded with a stage 21 victory during the race.
His superb form was evident during the 31.5 kilometre race as he crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 33 minutes and 6 seconds.
Geraint Thomas of Team Sky Procycling finished 39 seconds behind at the second position while Jesse Sergent of Team RadioShack-Nissan and Alex Rasmussen of Team Garmin-Barracuda occupied the third and the fourth positions in the respective order.
Thomas De Gendt of Team Vacansoleil-DCM, Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda and Gustav Larsson of Team Vacansoleil-DCM achieved the next three positions.
The Italian was happy after registering an important stage victory at the race and noted that he trained really hard throughout the season which has given him the desired results.
He cited, “This was a big goal for me, I won the last time trial here at the Giro in 2008 and I was second in 2010 and last year it was a big goal”.
“But I crashed two days before and had to go to the hospital”.
“So I’ve been working for this for a year. For me, it’s been a difficult Giro. I was trying to save all my energy for this in the last week”.
The 36-year-old opened his 2012 winning account with a stage 1 victory at the Giro del Trentino 2012 and also succeeded at the point’s classifications of the race.
He wins both the first and the second splits of the race and also bagged 25 UCI points after the event.
Marco also won the most combative rider award while Geraint Thomas, Jesse Sergent, Alex Rasmussen, Thomas De Gendt and Ryder Hesjedal claimed the next five spots.
Team Garmin-Barracuda finished at the first spot with an impressive time of 1 hour, 43 minutes and 3 seconds.
Team BMC fell 3 seconds behind at the second spot with Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep, Team Sky Procycling and Team RadioShack-Nissan achieving the next four spots in the respective order.
