The Borussia Monchengladbach striker has expressed his pleasure at the Foals win over Schalke and qualifying for the last eight at the expense of the reigning holders.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733 was talking in the wake of his team’s 3-1 triumph against Schalke at the Borussia-Park on Wednesday, December 21.
Reus grabbed a brace, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Juan-Arango-c19652 scored the other goal for the Foals. Julian Draxler netted the only goal for the visitors.
Arango opened the scoring on the 19th minute mark before Reus made it 2-0 in the 56th minute. Draxler pulled one goal back in the 70th minute but could not save his side from going down against
the fighting Foals.
The striker has revealed his satisfaction at reaching the quarter-finals of the competition and is hoping to lift the trophy this season.
However, Reus believes that Gladbach were lucky to have conceded only one goal, as they were sloppy with their defending on several occasions. He opined that his side lost control momentarily during the second half, and it allowed
the visitors to pull one goal back.
While talking to the official Bundesliga website, the 22-year-old further mentioned:
“It was great fun, there was a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium. We played well in the first half in particular and forced our game on Schalke. We stepped off the gas a bit in the second half, even though we were a man up, which
wasn't so good. But we picked up again towards the end and sealed the win against the cup holders.”
Reus has had a phenomenal campaign for Gladbach thus far, and is one of the main reasons behind the club’s success. The Foals are surprise candidates for the title, and have gone into the winter break just four points behind the
current leaders, Bayern Munich.
The quarter-finals of the competition will be held in February 2012, and Monchengladbach have been drawn against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536.
The 22-year-old has scored 11 goals in 16 matches in all competitions this season thus far. His impressive performances for the club handed him a national team debut against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 earlier this year.
