Marco Scutaro makes most out of his opportunities
One would think that Jed Lowrie is probably the only best shortstop in the batting line-up for the Boston Red Sox but those assessments did not mean anything when Marco Scutaro was put in the team to replace the fiery regular player.
Lowrie has gone 14-for-34 in eight games. He has smashed three homers and has driven in 10 RBIs in the duration of those games. It was only logic to see what Scutaro had to live up to.
Facing Los Angeles Angels at their home ground was no easy task for the shortstop. Manager Terry Francona allowed him three chances and he did not disappoint as he managed two hits from the encounter, reaching the base, three times. The Angels were beaten
7–0 by the Boston side and Scutaro was glad to be part of the mix.
"Scoot's a good player", Francona said. "We've run into a situation where Lowrie's been a tremendous player".
Scutaro has not ushered a single cry since his time on the plate has started to decrease. Like a professional, he lets his performance do the talking.
"I'm just battling myself and I keep working and just trying to do my job when I'm in the lineup", said Scutaro. "Keep fighting. There's a long way to go".
Going to the game from the bench is not easy and while the player is adjusting to his new role, he was able to tell the press that his timing at the start of the season had been off target.
The player maintained that he will continue working on his hitting and be ready for any challenge that comes his way in the near future.
The Boston club had put Lowrie on the side due to an off-day before the series against the Baltimore Orioles.
"I think it makes sense" Francona said. "I think he's swinging the bat real well. I think sometimes you reach too far with guys, though. You set them back. All of a sudden he's been playing a lot. I think you can maybe help him out a little by doing that.
We love the way he's swinging the bat".
Lowrie will take his place in the roster on April 26, 2011, when the Red Sox go to Camden Yards.
