Marco Simoncelli back at Estoril after a bad fall – MotoGP News
Marco Simoncelli of San Carlo Honda Gresini had a bad fall as he led at the Gran Premio bwin de Espana on April 3, due to the wet-greasy conditions of the track.
Many other MotoGP riders also had trouble with the challenging partially wet-dry tarmac.
Simoncelli said, “I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from Jerez. I was having as great race and the crash obviously wasn't what I wanted, it was a real shame. I know I will have the chance to make up for it though because I know I am fast and have a
good feeling with a competitive bike.”
San Carlo’s rider was leading the grid after some laps went down, but he had a bad fall just before the Rossi-Stoner accident. This was the time when he had bright chances to bag a pure clean victory when the star riders were out and only Jorge Lorenzo was
on his tail.
He finished just 0.059 seconds off the pace of his last podium finish, which was called his best race to the time of his rookie season. Now he is aiming to get a fine podium finish at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
The Italian rider of the Honda satellite team has shown significant improvement over the pre-season tests and also stood at the top of the time charts of the first official pre-season test held at Sepang. For his power performance, he is being counted as
a potential rival for the World Championship title.
Until the present moment Simoncelli has not earned the prize of his speedy performance but has gained confidence and knows that he can fight for a win against some of the top MotoGP riders.
Later he added to his words, “I have made progress and so have the team, we are getting on better and better and I am sure we will soon be celebrating together because everything is in place.”
Simoncelli finished just milliseconds behind Andrea Dovizioso of Repsol Honda in last season’s Portuguese race, as it was the second to last round of the 2010 MotoGP season.
Marco stated, “I had my best result of last season in Portugal and just missed out on the podium so this time I want to be on it,” he declared. “I like the track a lot, I won there in 250cc in 2009 and was on the podium the previous season. I am confident
we can have a good weekend.”
Fausto Gresini, Team Manager of Simoncelli claimed that he showed his fighting performance at the Spanish round but due some reasons was not able to finish with a good performance.
Gresini added that he is now ready to get back in action at Estoril this weekend and run for the victory against the best rider in the premier class. The victory is anticipated for the team with Simoncelli’s effort and it will be an exciting race.
