Marco Simoncelli discusses about Dani Pedrosa’s fall - MotoGP News
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider, Marco Simoncelli has given his remarks on Dani Pedrosa’s accident in the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, held at Le Mans circuit, on May 15.
The fourth race of the 2011 MotoGP season gave plenty of action for the fans, as the incident between Pedrosa and Simoncelli was the talk of the race. The accident also had a major impact on the final outcome of the event.
The Italian rider attempted to over-take Repsol Honda rider, Pedrosa at the Chemin aux boeufs corner, which resulted in a crash. The fall cost the Spaniard with a broken right collar-bone and ‘Did Not Finish’ race day status.
Following the incident, the Italian was charged with an allegation in terms of ‘ride through’ penalty. The move altered track positions, as Simoncelli dropped several places when he came back on the track and managed to finish at fifth
position behind Yamaha rider, Jorge Lorenzo, who was fighting for third position earlier in the race.
Simoncelli justified his innocence and said, “For me the punishment from Race Direction was because of all the controversy of the last few days, and from Estoril. For me if the same thing happened without me they would penalise nobody.
This is my point of view.”
Simoncelli said that the Spaniard attempted to pass him at the straight and the Italian being fast tried to surpass Pedrosa from outside, leaving enough space for the Spanish rider. The Italian also apologised for the mishap.
Alberto Puig, Pedrosa’s manager while talking to the media said, “For a long while the fact that Simoncelli is dangerous has been talked about and I believe he really is ignorant, that he doesn’t understand anything about what’s going
on.” Continuing about the crash he claimed that security commission take an adequate action against him.
Pedrosa was annoyed with his fall and a broken collar-bone. He felt that the penalty given to the Italian was not enough for the incident, as his chances to lead the world championship were doomed and he deserved better than apologies.
