Marco Simoncelli not allowed to race in World SuperBike Championship - MotoGP News
The San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli is gathering talk from all over the media and his MotoGP rivals, as recently news spread out that he was trying out for the Castrol Honda Fireblade at Monza.
The most expected was that the rider will be entering a WSBK race later this season on a wild card base. In fact his ride on Fireblade was just to taste the bigger machine for training purposes.
Simoncelli’s team expressed their view to the media that they are in the process to build a CBR1000RR for testing purposes which the Italian will avail and he will not appear in any round at the World Superbike Championship series. The FIM regulations allow
a MotoGP rider to take some training laps on selected circuits with a production bike. These training laps are not included in the official test sessions.
The Italian, San Carlo rider made a impressive mark on the World Superbike Championship with a guest appearance on an Aprilia machine in 2009 at Imola. The former 250cc champion scored third place in the second round while riding an Aprilia RSV4. He took
an amazing victory after making a tough pass on Max Biaggi in the second round.
Marco is currently having a bad time in the 2011 MotoGP season, as he has two incomplete races in his account. He has been dominating the practice and test sessions but other than the season opener at Qatar, he has not been able to get points in the second
and third rounds.
The San Carlo Honda Gresini team is confident after the post-race test held at Estoril on May 2, where he once again proved his pace and led the final time sheet of the day. This seemed important for the rider too, to give an impression to his GP rivals
that he is capable of fast times on his new Honda RC212V.
The new clutch system in the RCV has already shown its magic in three rounds held earlier, with a victory for Honda factory riders, Casey Stoner in Qatar and Dani Pedrosa in Portugal. There are plenty of races to come and the San Carlo Honda Gresini team
expects to clutch a victory.
