Marco Simoncelli of San Carlo Honda Gresini motivated for Iveco Australian Grand Prix – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli is highly motivated to perform well at the upcoming Iveco Australian Grand Prix.
After being penalised during the Japanese Grand Prix and missing podium, he is recharged to earn back his loss.
Simoncelli said, “I was lacking some race consistency but we have addressed that and if it wasn't for the jump start at Motegi I would have been fighting for the podium, so that is something I want to make up for at Phillip Island.”
Following the tough raceday, Super Sic also tested the 2012 Honda RC213V at Twin Ring Motegi. Simoncelli has received an extension to his contract with Honda Gresini and will ride a factory supported RC213V in 2012.
He also explained the pleasure to ride the 2012 Honda MotoGP prototype at Motegi. He added that the 50 laps he covered were an amazing experience. The bike tends to accelerate even in fifth and sixth gears which will be a benefit for him for being the tallest
on the grid.
The Italian rider collected a feedback for Honda Racing Corporation while testing the RC213V. Super Sic’s feedback and the technical data will be used to further improve the bike for the Valencia test following the final round of the season.
Before heading to Phillip Island, Simoncelli took a short vacation in Philippines. He relaxed to gather his confidence after a tough raceday at Motegi. Now he is enthused to do well at Australia.
While having a moderate start at Motegi, he was able to ride fast and had a close shot to take a podium finish. However, he seems to have the pace to challenge the top squad with consistency.
The Japanese Honda Gresini rider Hiroshi Aoyama faced tyre issue and could not perform well at his home event in Motegi.
Aoyama said, “I really wanted to score a positive result at my home Grand Prix but I didn't manage it. We had some grip problems that prevented me from being consistent in the race, which was a real shame in front of my home fans.”
He is now headed to Phillip Island, the track he loves to race under cold weather conditions.
