Marco Simoncelli’s father requests for a ‘minute’s noise’ to tribute his son’s death – MotoGP news
Paolo Simoncelli, father of late MotoGP star, Marco Simoncelli, has requested to tribute Super Sic in a different way.
A ‘minute’s noise’ made by the roaring of all bike engines from MotoGP, Moto2 and 125cc classes would be a better way to praise his race career and on track death. He suggested it for the upcoming grand prix at Valencia.
Paolo said, “Next Sunday during the Valencia GP, instead of there being a minute’s silence to honour Marco, I would prefer that there was a minute of total chaos with all the engines of the bikes of MotoGP, Moto2 and 125 all on and roaring together.”
Super Sic’s father expressed his views during an interview on television and was quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport. He also added that he was pleased to see that many people gathered on the funeral to give him the final affections.
Simoncelli’s father added, “People have come from all over Italy and from abroad to say goodbye to Marco. They cry and it's me that has to console them. Sometimes I think that Marco was an angel. All this affection makes me feel better and it is helping
all of us. I think that the key to all this affection is his smile.”
Super Sic died due to severe injuries on his neck, head and ribs. During the Malaysian Grand Prix in the second lap, he had a low side fall, but retained partial control of his Honda RC212V.
While hanging on his bike, Simoncelli steered in the way of Colin Edwards of Yamaha Tech3 and Valentino Rossi of the Ducati team.
With no time to react, Edwards slammed into Simoncelli, running over his body. The Texan rider also had a hard fall and sustained dislocated shoulder with a torn cartilage on left shoulder.
Rossi also had a bad shake from the hit, but somehow managed to get his control back on Ducati. Rossi escaped without any injury, whereas Edwards will miss the Valencia round.
The young Italian rider laid unconscious on the track. The medical staff approached him and rushed to Clinica Mobile. However, he lost the fight and succumbed to his injuries.
