http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giovanni-c14985 Trapattoni’s assistant manager has declared that the Boys in Green will ‘play for pride’ against the Azzurri, and has stressed that the game is equally decisive for both the teams.
Republic of Ireland’s assistant coach, Marco Tardelli, has warned Italy to expect a strong challenge from his team, and has stated that the Boys in Green have their pride at stake in the upcoming match against Italy.
The Irish have already confirmed their elimination following consecutive defeats in their first two games, while the Azzurri must win their last group match in order to have any chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Tardelli stressed that while the clash is understandably important for the Italians, it is equally decisive for the Irish, as they have their honour at stake and do not want to go home having lost all of their group matches.
The Irish chief insisted that the Boys in Green will enter the field with a view to pick up points against the Azzurri, and insisted that it will be humiliating for them to finish the tournament with no points in hand.
While talking to the press, the 57-year-old said:
“It is a decisive match for us as well as them. We are playing to pick up points too, as we don’t want to finish the tournament on zero. We are playing for pride.”
The last two matches of Group C have attracted a lot of attention due to the fact that a 2-2 draw in the Spain-Croatia game can knockout Italy, even if they manage a win over Ireland.
When asked about his views on the matter, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Egypt-c2890 manager refrained from giving any comments, and stated that it is none of his concern.
Tardelli praised http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 for the improvement they have exhibited over their performance in the friendlies, but reiterated his warning that Ireland will come at the Azzurri with full force, and they will not have an easy game.
“Will Spain-Croatia end in a draw? That is not my problem. I have been impressed with Italy and seen them play well. In any case, we will not make any concessions.”
