Marco Van Basten blames http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s dismal season – EPL News
Dutch legend Marco Van Basten has expressed his disappointment on the recent performances of Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba for Chelsea. He said that the duo has been in dismal form of late and the lack of goals has cost Chelsea the Premier League title.
Fernando Torres made a 50-million-pound move to Chelsea from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the January transfer window. The Spaniard has since been criticised for some poor performances on the field and is yet to score his first goal for the club in a total of 10 appearances.
Van Basten admitted that Torres has been poor for the Blues and said that Chelsea had over valued the striker. He added that the former Atletico Madrid forward has not been up to the mark and has not made a difference for the London club. He also criticised
Drogba for his lack of scoring and claimed that the two strikers cannot play together as they are too similar.
“Am I too critical on Torres and Drogba because I used to be a striker myself? I don’t think so. Torres is a great player but Chelsea paid a big amount of money for him, but does he make the difference now? No, not at all,” the Dutchman was quoted as saying.
The former AC Milan striker praised the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 for their consistent performances. He insisted that it was only the club’s attackers who are not living up to the expectations which has put a lot of pressure on the defence and
mid-field.
Van Basten also admitted that Didier Drogba is not the threat he used to be some years back. He added that the African player has been way under par this season for the Londoners and that his peak days are now over.
“John Terry and Frank Lampard are still fantastic in defence and midfield. But Drogba in the attacking line? He looks to be over the hill. His strongest days are behind him,” concluded the former Ajax forward.
The former Dutch international scored a phenomenal 152 goals in a total of 172 games for Ajax Amsterdam before moving to Italian giants AC Milan. Van Basten had a very successful career at the San Siro also and found the net 125 times in 198 matches before
ending a stunning career in 1995 at the age of 30.
